One of the major difficulties Patients and their Families face following Cardiac Trauma is getting back into the “Social Whirl” and realising that in most cases Patients can still socialise and enjoy themselves to the full.
Our Social Evenings provide an environment and atmosphere where Patients can relax in the company of their Families and Friends for a couple of hours with many others who have been through exactly the same difficult period and have faced the same problems as they have.
The Social Club in Frenchay Hospital was the regular venue for this activity, but unfortunately the bulldozers have been sent into Frenchay, and we have been forced to seek a new venue. At the moment we are going to the Warmley Community Association on the second Tuesday of each month. At present the Social Evening starts at around 8.00 p.m., but there is a plan afoot to try a Social Afternoon instead of a Social Evening, so that Members can travel in daylight.
Whether it be evening or afternoon, we organise a Speaker to come along and entertain us with a Talk on all sorts of different subjects. There is an open invitation to all Members, their Families and Friends to come along, it doesn’t matter how may, we all enjoy the company. Everyone is welcome, there is no admission charge, and we hold a free fun raffle. The prizes are normally donated by Members and can include gifts, drinks, chocolates, fruit and vegetables, and all sorts of things. Some of the prizes are unusual and on occasions the word “fun” fits the bill exactly!
